Current projects

PhD/MPhil Candidate at the Advanced Virtual and Technological Architecture Research (AVATAR) laboratory at University of Greenwich, having transfered research from the School of the Built Environment (SOBE) at University of Salford.

Developing the The Bionic City™: the ultimate sustainable smart city it transfers knowledge from Earth's ecosystems to a blueprint for a metropolis with resilience to extreme meteorological and geological events, enabling reduced structural damage and loss of life from events including flooding, hurricanes, cyclones, tornadoes, wildfires, heat waves, snowstorms, eruptions and earthquakes. Melissa's model embeds the principles of Complex Adaptive Systems, Biomimetics, Living Architecture and Resilience Theory.

NEW FRONTIERS™; a catalyst for rapid innovation in sustainable design. Focused on the built environment the initiative brings together sustainability leaders from across design, architecture, engineering, urban planning, chemistry, materials science, ecology, policymaking and media to create interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge sharing, capacity building and public discourse.

Visiting Fellow of Sustainable Innovation in Design and Media at the School of Art & Design at University of Salford and consultant/researcher of sustainable innovation in design, media, communications and the visual arts.
